Dr. Garbarino is a licensed psychologist, with more than 20 years of experience, who works in private practice in Carmel, CA.
She holds a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Texas A&M University, and a Master of Education in Counseling Psychology from the University of Houston. She completed an Internship in Clinical Psychology from Cornerstone Behavioral Health in Evanston, Wyoming. She also completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Family Systems from Family and Children Enrichment Services (FACES) in San Carlos, Calif., and a three-year certification in working with Disorders of the Self from the Masterson Institute for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. She also earned certification from UC Berkeley in Interventions in Treatment of Trauma. She has completed a Level I and II certification in using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) in the treatment of Type I trauma. She also is certified in Emotionally Focused Therapy Treatment for Couples, Families, and Individuals.
Her work consists of focus on the relational aspects of the presenting problems. Emotionally Focused Therapy is a short term model (8-20 sessions).
Dr. Garbarino’s clinical training and expertise includes therapeutic work with adults, couples, family and group therapy. She has worked in medical, residential, day treatment and outpatient settings, and provides consultation to professionals.
Her teaching work for JFK University provided training for graduate level students and pre-licensure candidates in the field of mental health. She continues to pursue opportunities for personal growth and development as a clinician in the treatment of mental health issues, with an emphasis on helping people to establish and maintain effective relationships at home and at work.
